First time home mortgage - where to go?

Question: First time home mortgage - where to go?

(Posted by: pizzagirl on 2010-02-17 14:20:47)

I just got off the phone to try to get pre- qualified for a loan. The guy asked me how much I was looking at, and I told him and then after I ran some numbers by him basically had the tone of, "Well too bad...that might be kind of a high loan. " I wanted to look at homes and all I wanted to do was get an idea of the price I should start looking at but it was like pulling teeth asking him questions and asking him what numbers are safe to look at. I gave up and said I'd call back when he asked if I wanted him to do a follow up later.... What are some good places to look for a home mortgage?

You have to sit down and figure out how much house you can afford. 200k you need 8K down, 6k closing costs. Monthly mortgage with taxes and insurance roughly 1800 a month. Only you know what price is safe to look at. Then talk to someone at your local bank.
